چکیده

Suppose N people are in a circle and each has a K-bit integer on his forehead and can see the others’ integersht does not know his own. How many bits of information must be exchanged among the players so that each can determine his own number after the exchange? We provide an algorithm for which bits suffice. In particular if N > K , the total of NK bits can be resolved in K + 1 transmissions. Since K bits are required to resolve any of the numbers, this is quite efficient, and is shown to be optimal. In addition the optimal strategy is obtained when the numbers are of different lengths.

The effect of near-miss rate and card control when American Indians and non-indians gamble in a laboratory situation: the influence of alcohol.

Twelve American Indian (AI) and 12 non-AI participants gambled on a slot-machine simulation and on video poker. Prior to the gambling sessions, half of the participants consumed alcohol while the other half consumed a placebo beverage. They then played the slot-machine simulation three times, with the percentage of programmed "near misses" varying across sessions. They also played video poker t...

Pseudo-Optimal Strategies in No-Limit Poker

Games have always been a strong driving force in artificial intelligence. In the last ten years huge improvements have been made in perfect information games like chess and othello and the strongest computer agents can beat the strongest human players. This is not the case for imperfect information games such as poker and bridge where creating an expert computer player has shown to be much hard...

Using planning poker for combining expert estimates in software projects

When producing estimates in software projects, expert opinions are frequently combined. However, it is poorly understood whether, when, and how to combine expert estimates. In order to study the effects of a combination technique called planning poker, the technique was introduced in a software project for half of the tasks. The tasks estimated with planning poker provided: (1) group consensus ...

Speeding-Up Poker Game Abstraction Computation: Average Rank Strength

Some of the most successful Poker agents that participate in the Annual Computer Poker Competition (ACPC) use an almost zero regret strategy: a strategy that approximates a Nash Equilibrium. However, it is still unfeasible to efficiently compute a Nash Equilibrium without some sort of information set abstraction due to the size of Poker’s search tree. One popular technique for abstracting Poker...
